Dental Implant FAQ
Bend, OR

Older man looking at his new dental implants from Lone Pine Dental in Bend, ORDental implants can be very important for your oral health, and our team likes to make sure that your mouth is kept healthy and fully functioning through the use of dental implants. However, whenever a member of our team at recommends dental implants, we find that our patients initially have a lot of questions. This is common with any big decision in life, such as an oral surgery like this one, and we are here to help answer your questions.

Are Dental Implants Teeth?

A dental implant is not a tooth, but rather they are metal posts that are implanted into your jawbone. Once they are fused and part of your jawbone, then our dentist can place the appropriate prosthetic onto that implant based on your needs. These could include a bridge, crown, or a set of dentures.

Often, if you need to have a tooth removed, or a bridge installed, dental implants are the first component that will go into your mouth, replacing your missing tooth root.

Why Would I need A Dental Implant?

Dental implants are typically needed whenever you find yourself with a decayed tooth root. Every tooth has a root that keeps them firmly embedded in your jawbone, and also allows for them to remain strong and secure while you are eating. However, if that root gets damaged or rotted due to decay, then you will need a replacement.

That is where we recommend dental implants, and those metal posts act as replacement roots. Then these posts can have teeth placed on them, through the use of dental crowns or bridges.

How Durable Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are meant to last a lifetime. The way in which the dental implant fuses with your jawbone, over time your jawbone grows around the implant and adds to its durability. This also prevents slipping, which is a common problem that can occur if you have dentures that are not attached to your teeth through implants.

Dental implants are easy to maintain with regular brushing and flossing.

Are Dental Implants Safe?

Since dental implants are very common and used in several different procedures, you do not have to worry about them being unsafe. We have had extensive experience with placing dental implants, and the technology behind dental implants is constantly advancing.

There is also very little pain due to the anesthetic used during oral surgery, and most dental implants can be safely installed with two phases of operation.
