Dental CleaningsDental cleanings are beneficial and help improve your oral health. Our dental team will teach you the different types of dental cleanings that are available and offered at our practice. The types of cleanings differ; what you need will depend on the extent of plaque and tartar accumulation there is in your teeth. Discussing the different options available is important and useful in deciding what kind of cleaning you want and need. Our dental team at Lone Pine Dental will take you through everything you need to know. Prophylaxis CleaningThis is also known as routine cleaning. It involves removal of all plaque from your teeth, going deeper and getting the hardened plaque known as calculus, and even removing all the stains that may have formed on the surface of the teeth. This is the procedure to maintain healthy teeth and not to be done on already damaged teeth. Ensure that you maintain daily oral hygiene like brushing and flossing of the teeth. This type of cleaning should be done every six months to ensure that plaque has not accumulated for long. Root Planing and ScalingThis is also known as deep cleaning and is done for patients who are likely to have gum disease, or even for those who have already developed gingivitis. Accumulation of plaque and tartar over time will cause severe gum disease and even serious oral health problems. If you realize that you are developing gum disease, ensure that you immediately see a dentist so that root planing and scaling can be done before plaque develops to tartar. Deep cleanings are beneficial, and you will need to go to the dentist often to keep yourself safe from gum disease. Gross DebridementThis is a type of cleaning for those who have not visited the dentist for over a year and who have tartar and plaque build up on the surface of the teeth. First, the dentist will remove all the plaque and tartar that is on the teeth. After all plaque and tartar is removed, then the dentist will be able to determine if there are other oral health issues going on, and decide which procedures may need to be recommended. Routine dental cleanings and deep cleanings are an important part of dental health. The American Dental Association recommends that you should see a dentist at least twice a year for a dental cleaning. The dentist will determine the type of cleaning you will need after an examination and checking the plaque and tartar buildup in the mouth. Our dental team at Lone Pine Dental will conduct dental cleanings and ensure that you know the types of dental cleanings available. Book an appointment at (541) 668-8036. |
